Ticket Sales for Stadler Trains Launch in Kazakhstan
Stadler trains feature twice as many seats as the familiar Talgo compartment cars
"Passenger Transportation" JSC has opened ticket sales for the new trains from Swiss manufacturer Stadler on routes from the capital to Almaty and Semey. The first trains will depart from Astana to Almaty on November 11, and to Semey on November 13.
To date, the carrier has accepted over 100 carriages assembled at the Stadler Kazakhstan plant. The carriages are designed for 40 seats in compartment (coupe) cars and 56 in open-plan (platzkart) cars. Increasing the capacity will boost operational efficiency. The carriages are adapted to the country's climate conditions, operating in temperatures ranging from -50°C to +45°C. Enhanced thermal insulation and powerful heating and air conditioning systems help maintain a comfortable temperature. They also feature diesel system heating and protection against snow, sand, and dust.
The train sets are equipped with climate control, 220V power outlets, USB and USB-C ports, CCTV, accessible facilities for passengers with reduced mobility, and buffet cars. Stadler carriages can reach speeds of up to 160 km/h, as confirmed by successful testing.
Train No. 3/4 "Nurly Zhol – Almaty-2" will operate daily, taking 19 hours 20 minutes from Astana to Almaty, and 18 hours 51 minutes from Almaty to the capital. Train No. 153/154 "Nurly Zhol – Semey" will run on odd-numbered days, with a travel time of 13 hours 30 minutes from Astana and 14 hours 05 minutes from Semey.
Initially, the launch was planned for May 2026, but the schedule was shifted due to identified technical discrepancies and an extended testing period. Under the agreement with "Passenger Transportation" JSC, Stadler will deliver 557 carriages by the end of 2030 and provide maintenance for the next 20 years.
In the new Stadler carriages, passengers can enjoy the reliable Vputi.kz service by KAZTECHNOLOGY for a comfortable and pleasant journey.
